HAIR TRANSPLANTATION FOR WOMEN

The human hair formed by a protein called keratin. Keratin exists in skin and skin supplements like nail, bristle and hair. The human hair begins its life as 1000 follicles in 1 cm when we born and when we become 25 this number decreases to 600. The reason of this increase is not the hair loss, but the growth of the area when the follicle number is constant. Our hairs are in a renewing phase from birth till death.

This hair loss can be increased or decreased according to the seasons. Especially in the spring but most significantly in autumn the hair loss may be increased. The scientists are thinking that the reason of the hair loss is caused by the decreased melatonin which depends to the lessened day light.

During the normal cycle of hair, some hair will be grow and some will fall out. These shed hairs (telogene phase) are starting to grow after a certain resting period (anagene phase). The hairs in anagene phase are enclosing the 85% of all the hairs. The phase is the growing period of the hairs and continues for 2-3 years.

In catagen phase the growing stops, the hair becomes tinner but there is no shedding at this moment. This period will last for 2-3 weeks. The ratio of the un-growing and thin hairs is 3-4% of the total hairs.

In talogene phase the hairs are becoming thinner and then shed. The hair ration in this phase is about 15% of the total. This phase lasts for 2-3 weeks and then new hair starts to grow in its place. As you can understand from this cycle, your hair will be shed in each 3-4 years, and then re-grow. The reason of 60-80 daily hair loss is this natural cycle. For the new transplanted hair the same cycle is also valid.

The types of hair losses for women:

Scatricial Alopecia: Causes from the hair follicles permanent destruction and increasing of the fibrous connective tissue between the cells. It is commonly in round form and in some cases widespread. It can be occur after the face lifting, scalp surgeries, burns, etc. The transplantations over the wound skin give positive results.

Tractional/Traumatic Alopecia: It occurs after the long lasting stretching or pulling of the hair. It is a permanent hair loss. Tightened buns or very tight plaits can especially cause to a hair loss on the brow line and sides. For men this may occur after a long term hair prosthesis because of the clips and adhesive materials.

High fever, mycosis Telogene Areate: When more then 85% of a healthy person’s hairs are in anagene phase, 15% of the hairs are in resting phase. In other words when some of our hairs are shedding, some new hairs are growing. It is normal to shed in average 100 hairs each day as part of this cycle. However, sometimes your hairs are entering into the resting phase very quickly and the external factors may cause to this situation. We are all encountering that kind of reasons during our life. Sometimes the influenza infection or annoyance can cause to the hair loss. We can list the reasons of Telogene Areate as follows: Chronic disease Chemotherapy Serious infection Serious psychological stress Serious operations Hypothyroid or hyperthyroid Strong diets without proteins Iron abstinence anemia Some medicaments Long journeys which may cause to jetlag The heavy metals (selenium, arsenic, thallium) are breaking the hair cycle. When the hair is in anagene phase (in other words at the starting point of the growing phase) the development will stop and it enters into the regression period that we call telogene phase. And in a couple of month the hair will shed. During the pregnancy the hairs will be stayed longer in the anagene phase because of the hormones. The hairs are in the best condition during the pregnancy period. After the birth, the hairs are entering quickly into the resting phase and this cause to a faster hair loss. The same situation will be seen after breaking the birth-control pills. Generally Telogene Areate will be automatically healed right after the external factor disappears. Here, if the external factor was long-term the untreatable permanent hair losses might be seen. If the reason could be determined (like hypo-hyperthyroid, iron abstinence, anti-protein diets) the treatment may be enough to solve this problem. Together with the treatment vitamin supports like vitamin B, zinc and mesotherapy application might be necessary. The hair loss types for women: Generally one of every 5 women has some amount of hair loss because of some diseases and hormonal problems. Generally all hairs become thinner and some losses may seen on women. There is no definitive connection between the age and hair loss. THE HORMONAL REASONS:

The Androgenic Alopecia (genetic hair loss) may occur in 3 different forms like the following classification I. Thinned hairs on the upper part of the scalp, in central area II. Thinned hairs on the upper part of the scalp, in central region and wide spread areas and partly hair losses II. Hair loss on the upper part of the scalp, in central region and wide spread areas, extensions of this area through the front and back side of the scalp and/or brow hair line losses;

Birth Menopause Thyroid Gland’s Secretion Defects Stress:

Stress can cause to hair loss in some cases. This kind of hair loss called as Telogene Effluvium and it is different then androgenic alopecia. If the stress reason can be eliminated, the hairs will re-grow approximately in one year period.

Some diseases may also cause to hair losses for women; Anemia:

Anemia is one of these diseases. 18% of the women have iron deficiency anemia which needs to be treated. In case of the iron deficiency, before the anemia occurs, stock iron and tissue iron will be lessened. Some researchers are bringing forward the opinion that the hair loss is the earliest diagnostic of iron deficiency and occurs before the clear anemia. Other reasons except the Androgenic Alopecia and anemia, some of the hair loss causes are; Trichotillomania, Alopecia Areata, Accidents, previous operations, hair losses on the scar areas caused by chemical material burnings, etc. reasons. Medicaments: (beta blockers, cortisone, heparin, coumadin, some antidepressants etc.) The reasons of eyebrows, lashes and beard losses; the most commonly reason of the eyebrow losses is to tear them continuously with cosmetic purposes.

What is Hair Transplantation, Hair Replacement?

During the hair transplantation the healthy hair roots will be taken under local anesthesia by the specialists from the upper part of the nape between two ears which have the characteristic un-shedding feature, will be separated into double or triple grafts, and transplanted one-by-one to the bald area according to a natural pattern again under local anesthesia in an aesthetic way.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) It is taking the hair roots one-by-one from the hair-bearing skin with special microsurgical equipments by a team of specialists without incision marks and stitches. The hair units (grafts) will be removed from the back and side areas of the scalp and replaced to the bald region. Local aesthesia will be applied to the donor and replacement areas. This technique also allows the transplantation of the breast, back and tummy hairs. These hair follicles will be adapted to the hair characteristics of the transplanted area in time, and they continue their existences with the same structure (appearance) like the other hairs. With FUE technique 800-1500 grafts, in other words between 1800 and 3550 hair strands can be transplanted in one session, when an intensive transplantation is necessary, the sessions can be longer and the total operation will take 2 or 3 days. FUE technique must be preferred under the following cases: If there is not enough donor area If the patient wants to have very short hairs in the future For the transplantation of small areas (small sized bald areas, localized areas like scars…)

When the skin elasticity is too low, in other words when the application of FUT (follicular unit transplantation) is not possible and the scalp does not allows to take flaps FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) The hair roots on the nape will be taken as a strap between two ears by making the calculation according to the thickness of the hairs, the elasticity of the area, and the size of the transplanted region in optimum level. The procedure will be performed under local anesthesia. The donor area will be closed with aesthetic stitches for making a hardly visible scar. The stitches will be automatically absorbed and it is not necessary to remove them. In this method a section of bald scalp is cut out and the removed hairs will be separated into single, double, triple or in some cases four or five grafts groups and will be prepared for the replacement. The grafts will be kept in a way that they will have minimum harm. procedure is capable of quickly covering large areas of baldness and is customized for each individual patient. The size of the flap and its placement are largely dependent upon the patient’s goals and needs. One flap can do the work of 350 or more punch grafts. A section of bald scalp is cut out and a flap of hair-bearing skin is lifted off the surface while still attached at one end. The hair-bearing flap is brought into its new position and sewn into place, while remaining “tethered” to its original blood supply. As you heal, you’ll notice that the scar is camouflaged-or at least obscured-by relocated hair, which grows to the very edge of the incision. The prepared grafts will be replaced into the line-formed channels which have been opened with the lateral slit techniques by using micro-pincettes from a specialist experienced team. The opened thin channels are ideal for not to harm the tissues, thereby the surrounding will also have no harm and it is advantageous for creating the possibility for donor areas. Besides that, this method gives the intensive transplantation possibility, fast growing and a cosmetic result very similar to the natural appearance. However, if this method applied incorrectly, it causes to have an unnatural baby-like hair or grass-man appearance.
